Bias lighting — a soft glow behind the screen — is the cheapest picture upgrade in home cinema, and one of the few backed by actual perception science.
Why it works
Your eyes judge contrast relative to their surroundings. A bright screen in a dark room forces the iris wide open, which flattens perceived black levels and tires the eye. A neutral 6500K glow behind the panel resets that reference, so blacks read deeper and long sessions hurt less.
Bias vs sync
A simple USB bias strip stays one calm colour. A synced kit reads the HDMI feed and mirrors on-screen colour to the wall — more immersive, more money.
